Axe making course 14th of June
Welcome to Highfield Forge. In this course you get the opportunity to create your very own axe made in a traditional way under the expert eye of Artist Blacksmith/Bladesmith, Andy Smith.
You will be provided with an axe billet that you will forge into shape using a combination of a flypress, hammer and anvil until we achieve the desired shape. After that, it's a well earned rest to let your freshly forged axe cool and normalise.
Once cooled the axe will need to go to the grinder to refine the shape before we go through the heat treatment process, after your axe is cooled we give it a final clean up and add the handle.
All my courses take place in my workshop which is a working forge. This course runs on a weekend and I am always happy to answer any questions you have.
The Axe in the picture was made by a student and a good example of what you will make.
You will go away with a very nice axe and a big smile on your face.
You must be 18 or over to attend this course. If you are lucky enough to look under 25, you may be asked to provide I.D.
You will receive conformation after your purchase.
